OCTOBER 10 - 13, 2024

Artists in this 4-day workshop will explore the basics of the mixed media of Oil and Cold wax, powdered pigments, and other materials. We will create abstract layers through textures, lines and colored fields that we can then mine through developing our own personal palimpsest of the history of our own mark making. This rich medium helps generate a space for the artist to create intentional layers and discover the unintentional layers that can be interpreted to abstraction or realism. In these four days we will cover information about technique, conversation on concept and composition, along with plenty of time to work.
While some painting experience is preferred, the workshop is open to all levels. Students will create multiple works on paper and wood panels.

SCHEDULE

We will meet Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 am -4:30 PM. Thursday through Saturday will be demonstrations, conversation, and plenty of time to work. Sunday will be a full day to work with one-on-one conversations and critiques. We will leave space for the class to develop according to the needs of the class participants.

MATERIALS

All materials will be included for a material fee of $150. per person to be paid to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop. Any personal favorite mark-making tools, reference materials, as well as a pen and paper for note taking is recommended. I will provide 6 -12"x 12", and 3- 16" x 16" birch plywood panels, these are not cradled panels. I will also provide one pad per person of Arches Oil Paper.
